Poor Dorset Street.
Brutalists don’t cry, but after this weeks shaking we’re not happy. These little bachelor flats are one of New Zealand’s most important post-war buildings and surely face the possibility of demolition. Next door, the lovely and underrated Dorset Towers are abandoned and round the corner the new kids Park Terrace & Establishment Apartments are also red-stickered. Save Ferris Dorset.

RUBBISH ! The owners of these flats are dedicated to them – how dare you even suggest demolition, ‘surely face’ is almost saying they will be.
Why don’t you do some research and talk with some or even just ONE of the owners. DT

Hi
As one of the owners of the flats, we’re certainly hoping that demolition isn’t going to happen and are working together, along with the Historic Places Trust to repair earthquake damage. Regards Claire

DT, easy on the caps lock, this is a family site.
Claire, all the very best with saving and restoring the flats. We’ll be chaining ourselves to the building if there’s even a sniff of demo.

I’d be reasonably happy with an airstrike on the CBD to get things moving – but Dorsett St must be saved. Good luck with the repairs. DT, take a chill pill, “surely face the possibility of demolition” is a pretty apt assessment of any building in the central city at the moment.

Have just been watching the demolition of Miles Warren’s first hill house, the Davis house at 2 Hilltop lane, 1964. Another great landmark gone, so sad.

Interested to know the latest on the lovely Dorset Street flats. Is restoration planned?

Hi Mary – the Dorset Street Flats are definitely going to be restored – aiming to start construction this year if all of our ducks align.
