A very tidy design that mixes various shapes particularly well. The main building at the rear is a typical Christchurch modern two-storey barn, but becomes extra interesting with the addition of the low, garage box and the mono pitch, wedge-of-cheese living area.

A particularly smart 1970s example of the Christchurch style from a former W&M architect: exposed concrete block walls, steep tongue and groove pitched ceilings and a tall, rigid chimney giving an assertive finger to the imminent ban on open fire places in Christchurch.

A tip-off from Stephen led us to this wee jewel by a stream in Spreydon. Stephen is a fan the original 60s design and wonders if it may be a Peter Beaven? He could well be right. The house also has similarities to the Charles Thomas’ designed Fielding House with its folded roof and blockwork. We like it a lot.
