A lovely home for builder Ross Fielding. Originally the garage was open and accentuated the sculptural roof which folds down over the sides of the house and rests lightly on the exterior walls.

Charles Thomas was the designer of the NZIA award winning Catholic Church in Sockburn.

Looking a bit neglected, this home was originally two self-contained units. The upper floor was an open plan one bedroom home for Mr A A G Reed, featuring a split level dining and living room with a substantial deck. Below; a self-contained flat for his son.

Believed to have been designed by a young architect trained at Warren and Mahoney, this compact 1970s modernist home sticks to the Bauhaus basics. Three staggered boxes – sleeping, eating, living – make the most of a small footprint. It’s simple and it works.

A variant on the Pixie House theme, this one designed in 1970, with a pyramid roof rather than the typical steep pitch gables. Aside from the more conventional roofline, all the Warren & Mahoney 1960s hallmarks are present: white concrete blocks, contrasting grey and rust-red windows.

The planter boxes and wrought iron are out of place, but the house is very well looked after by its original owner.
